Corporate Director of Governance and Compliance
£117k salary package

whg is a growing social business that is building homes, communities and successful lives throughout the Midlands region. We are a community-based organisation: proud of our local roots in Walsall, and ambitious for our continued growth and increased capacity to invest in homes and services that create successful communities. We excel at regenerating places: working in partnership with our customers and partners to address housing need and to tackle wider social and economic issues, such as poverty, inequality and health. Our ability to do all of this relies on being a well-run, transparent and ethical organisation that holds itself to account and follows the highest standards of governance of compliance.

As Corporate Director of Governance and Compliance you will be part of the Group’s Executive Team and the strategic lead for the full suite of Governance and Compliance functions, that include: Governance, Risk and Insurance; Data Governance; Legal Services; and Health, Safety and Environmental.

You’ll provide expert advice at Board level to ensure that decision-making is well-informed through strategic analysis, plans, policy proposals, and financial / performance reporting. You will offer high quality governance advice to Boards and Committees that enables them to follow best practice in their compliance protocols. And you will work with senior colleagues to ensure confidence that whg complies with legislative, regulatory, constitutional and financial requirements and works to high professional and ethical standards at all times.

People looking over a spread sheet

It’s likely that you hold a relevant professional qualification (such as ICSA) or that you can demonstrate equivalent expertise through practical experience in your career to date. You’ll already be operating in a Governance or Company Secretarial role that involves regular engagement with Boards and senior teams - providing advice on good corporate governance, regulatory and legal requirements and best practice. It’s important that you offer particular knowledge of current legal, regulatory and statutory requirements that apply to the housing sector.

We are dedicated to the success of our people and places. If you share this belief you’ll discover an organisation where you can commit your skills to improving people’s lives.
